Maybe you can't hear the noise above 55 mph because other road noise and wind take over. It's possible the differential is just worn out and kaput, sure. Oct 27, 2012 · The 2007 BMW X3 recently purchased from Fort Lauderdale BMW creates a very annoying loud ringing noise at speeds between thirty five (35) and forty two (42) mph. My shop put in a new transmission and torque converter, and the noise/vibration is completely gone. I assumed it was due to differences in sound dampening, but then again, coincidence or not, I'm running the 'Nox on Goodyear Confortred's as mentioned above and Michellin Latutude Touring before that.
